Winter Weather Advisory issued January 15 at 2:22PM EST expiring January 17 at 1:00PM EST in effect for: Adams, Columbia, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Montour, Northumberland, Perry, Schuylkill, York
Winter Weather Advisories are in place from 4pm this afternoon through 7am Wednesday. Counties Frederick, Carroll, northwest Hartford, and northern Baltimore counties are included in the advisory with 1-3" of accumulation expected. Slick travel concerns!!
The snow is on the move toward central Maryland as a clipper system cuts across West Virginia and a piece of energy rides up the coast. This will be a quick moving system that will eliminate any big time snow concerns. Before the front arrives highs will climb toward 40 degrees. This will help in any pre-treatment of the roads before the onset of the event.
Right now model timing seems to indicate slick travel concerns between 6pm Tuesday for the western counties outside of Frederick and through 6am Wednesday morning in the immediate Baltimore metro area. Snowfall accumulations at this time look to be minor at 1-3" in most locations with lesser amounts toward the Eastern Shore. Highest accumulations west of Cumberland with many locations along the I-68/I-81 corridor at 2-5" totals.
The snow gets out of here on Thursday for a chilly day in the 30s before we bring back the warmth. For those who hate Winter don't you worry the Spring feel is near. Highs over the weekend will be back in the 50s and maybe even nearing 60 degrees.
