Snow Chances Increase Going Into The Weekend!

The pattern we have entered has certainly been an active one. From a raging blizzard in the Midwest to the Christmas Eve light snow event and now Wednesday's accumulating snow and Ice!  We have rounded the corner towards snowier times ahead!

Our medium range computer guidance shows an interesting storm for the weekend that could deliver snows to Maryland. For the last several days the GFS and European models have developed a coastal storm that would bring a few inches of snow to the region.

The afternoon run of the European model shows a weak storm moving just south of the area. A track like this (called a southern slider) would bring light to moderate snows across the area by Saturday afternoon.

The Wednesday afternoon of the GFS model also shows a similar scenario playing out.

If you look at the European model's take on "potential" snow cover by early next week you would see a solid 3" of snow could accumulate across the metro area!

The Bottom Line

We do see a storm developing this weekend however, a few issues are being raised. If the storm is too late to develop it will be a weak system capable of bringing very light snow. However, a stronger storm would push further north bringing a significant east coast storm! Plenty of time to fine tune this forecast!
