Vegas night on DWTS

Vegas night could not have started in a more Vegas-like way! The opening sequence of the show might be my favorite to date! The camera went from scenario to scenario seamlessly. Heather Morris and her shoeless bachelorette party were hilarious. Val and Normani as dorky tourists were adorable. Charo appearing during a music swell was spectacular. So many good things! The competition wasn't too shabby either!

Nick Viall & Peta Mergatroyd had the honor of kicking off Vegas Night doing a Tango to Lady Gaga's "Poker Face". Very Vegas. I will say, Peta definitely packed some content into this one and Nick stepped up. He wasn't 10-worthy, but he was noticeably improved from last week and that is what it's all about. 26, with a split decision between the boys, 6's, and the girls, 7's.

Mr. T & Kym Herjavec's Foxtrot was straight up adorable. Mr. T is 64 and he dances like it. He doesn't glide around the floor, but has enough charm to carry him through. He looks like he has some flexibility issues, but really, don't we all? 24, his highest score of the season.

I hate to say that Bonner Bolton & Sharna Burgess' Charleston was a disappointment, but only because I have built him and Sharna up so much. Unfortunately, his injury prevented him from being as "wild and wacky" as the Charleston should be. The choreography was great, but he didn't quite keep up. 24

For a second week in a row, I would have given Heather Morris a 10!!!!!!! She had to dance with Alan Bersten again because Maksim Chmerkovskiy is still recovering from his injury. It appeared as though Alan choreographed it too. And of course, Bruno with the line of the night, "HIT ME HEATHER ONE MORE TIME!". Love love love Heather's "Toxic" Tango! 33, with the first 9 of the season... she should have gotten more than one 9!

I love watching Charo & Keo Motsepe during their rehearsals. He has totally succumbed to Charo's charms and plays off her well. AND, he might be getting better at controlling her, as evidenced by their Foxtrot. This was the first performance that was toned down and it actually suited her. She was graceful and classy and adorable, as usual. All 6's and the judges acted like they were doing her a favor. 24

Before I get into Simone Biles & Sasha Farber's Quickstep, shoutout to the wardrobe department of DWTS for the Elvis-inspired dress that Simone was wearing. It was beyond fab. Their Quickstep was precise and entertaining! They are a fun pair to watch. 32, with a 7 from Carrie Ann Inaba for a lift.

Eclipsing Nancy Kerrigan & Artem Chigvintsev's Samba to "Shake Your Bon Bon" by Ricky Martin, was Artem TOTALLY fanboying all over Ricky Martin when they met him in Vegas. So not something I was expecting from him, but it makes him even more endearing. On to the dance: Nancy needed more hip-action, but everything from the waist up was gorgeous. Her hip-action wasn't horrible, just a little abbreviated. Len Goodman called it the best dance of the season and Julianne Hough called it the best Samba in years. Hmmm, I disagree. Did you see Heather's Tango? 33 (I also disagree with this!)

I wanted to love David Ross & Lindsay Arnold's Jazz, and I kind of did, because I think David is so fun. I love that owned the Magic Mike vibe. Because he was side by side with professionals, it was very clear to me that he was lacking. The judges GUSHED over him, perhaps because he was so committed. 31 from the judges. They saw something I didn't.

Erika Jayne & Gleb Savchenko's Jive was a not the jiveiest I've ever seen. It was nice to see Erika smiley for a change, but this style does not suit her. 26

I loved Rashad Jennings & Emma Slater's Samba! It was a ton of fun and Rashad totally stepped up to the Samba challenge. I loved watching Emma's face during the judges' comments, because she appeared as though she couldn't believe what she was hearing. The judges saw something different. I did not see him "go wrong" and thought he lived up to the spirit of the dance. I appreciated Len's comment, "Don't beat yourself up, you'll be back and you're a dancer." 28

Normani Kordei & Val Chmerkovskiy's Foxtrot was HOT. I cannot get over how these two travel the world, return to L.A. within 7 days and perform at the level they do. I am slowly falling in love with Normani because she is SO chill. For being a pop star, she doesn't make it all about her. She is fierce. 34, highest score of the night.

Charo got the boot this week and it makes me sad because she saw it coming. I did not. I really thought it was going to be Mr. T. Also, I feel like this is the first time we really got a taste of Keo's personality, so I'm sorry to see him go. I love how he adapted to Charo's "crazy". Next week is the contestants' "Most Memorable Year", so grab a box of tissues. That show is always a roller coaster of emotions.
