State police arrest man in connection with North East burglary spree

NORTH EAST, Md. - A 31-year-old North East man has been arrested in connection with a string of burglaries in Cecil County, Maryland State Police said.

John A. Barton, of the 400 block Lakeside Drive is charged with first-degree burglary, second-degree burglary and drug charges. He is also facing a parole violation as he was recently released from prison, state police said.

State police said Barton is allegedly connected to at least one of the more than a dozen burglaries over the last three months.

As part of the ongoing investigation into 15 residential and commercial burglaries, most of which occurred in the North East area, state troopers and Cecil County sheriff's deputies served a search warrant last evening in the 400 block of Lakeside Drive. There, police found stolen property from several burglaries, as well as quantities of suspected heroin, marijuana, oxycodone and a digital scale.

Five others along with Barton were arrested in the residence, including one who is being charged with at least one of the burglaries.

Police said the burglaries occurred between Nov. 4, 2013 and Jan. 26, 2014. Police believe there are several other suspects involved in the burglaries. Additional arrests are expected soon.

Anyone with information about those responsible for the burglaries is urged to contact Maryland State Police criminal investigators at the North East Barrack at 410-996-7800. Callers may remain anonymous.
