Man breaks into home, smashes doors

HAGERSTOWN, Md. - A man is in custody after breaking into two homes, smashing through glass, and getting hit in the head with a flashlight by a homeowner.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office says they arrested Kasey Wayne Mitchell on Thursday after he broke into two homes.

First they say he broke into a home on Fairfax Road just north of Hagerstown.  The homeowner told police Mitchell was acting strange and walking into glass windows.  The homeowner then pointed a gun at Mitchell and told him to leave.  That's when Mitchell smashed a large glass window and ran from the home.

Deputies say Mitchell then smashed several windows inside and outside a home on Briarcliff Drive, not far from the original home.  At one point he stuck his head through a window he just broke and the woman who lived there hit him in the head with a flashlight.

Deputies got to the area shortly after the incident at the Briarcliff Drive home and arrested Mitchell.

They charged him with one count of second degree burglary and two counts of malicious destruction of property.
