Harford County students told they can't leave school on day of national walkout

(WMAR) - Students who attend Harford County Public Schools are being told they can't participate in a National School Walkout against gun violence planned for next Wednesday.

In a letter sent home to parents and guardians of students in middle and high schools saying they cannot condone students leaving classes to participate in this activity.

The school will facilitate a learning module on March 14 to provide students an opportunity to share their feelings about recent events across the nation.

The activity will take place in secondary schools across the county at 10 a.m. on that Wednesday.

"This activity will provide a means for students of varying perspectives to engage in a positive dialogue while remaining in a safe and secure environment."

Parents and guardians are being asked to talk to students ahead of time.

The letter says students who leaving school may be subject to disciplinary action for disrupting schools operations.
