KENT ISLAND, Md. (WMAR) - 4 teenagers were killed in a head-on collision on Kent Island in Queen Anne's County late Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Queen Anne's County Emergency Management Chief, the crash happened along the 700 block of Cox Neck Road around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
First responders found a silver VW four-door sedan with all four occupants deceased and a Ford Focus with a single occupant injured.
Officials released the victim's names as 19-year-old Tyler Elzey from Grasonville, 19-year-old Michael Ringerbach from Stevensville, and 18-year-olds Cory Pessagno and Harrison Smith both from Chester, Md.
Ringerbach, one of the teens killed, was a member of the Stevensville Fire Department.
The driver of the car, 73-year-old Eli Dabich, Jr., a professor at the Naval Academy, was conscious and flown to Maryland Shock Trauma.
Cox Neck Road was closed for over 4 hours while the scene was being investigated and cleared.
Preliminary investigation by the Sheriff's Office Crash Team indicates that the speed of the VW may be a factor.
