1 person killed after police pursuit, crash on Route 40 in Cecil County

One person was killed Thursday morning, following a police pursuit in Cecil County, according to Maryland State Police. 

The driver of the vehicle failed to stop for a local police officer around 2:30a.m., police said.

The person kept driving and later crashed into the back of a tractor trailer on Route 40 near Jackson Station Road in Perryville. The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene and has not yet been identified. 

The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured. 

Westbound lanes of Route 40 were closed for almost five hours as police investigated.
