Mays Chapel School breaks ground on new school, seniors still mad

TIMONIUM, Md. (WMAR) - State, county and school officials hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Mays Chapel Elementary School Friday morning, and not everyone was happy about it.

More than a dozen seniors showed up with signs and started shouting down Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz during the event.

The planned 700-seat school at the Mays Chapel site was designed to relieve overcrowding in the Lutherville and Timonium communities when it opens for the 2014-2015 school year.

The 94,000-square-foot school is an important part to the school system's long-term strategy to relieve overcrowding and create a new and vibrant learning community.
The plans for the new school ran into several road blocks along the way, but was eventually passed through all the proper channels for approval.
Why are the seniors so upset over the plans? See here.
