Baltimore Gas and Electric is offering customers $25 for old air conditioning units, an encouragement to upgrade to newer and more energy efficient models.
The electric company is holding a recycling event Saturday and Sunday. Customers can turn in their units at Sears at Eastpoint Mall in Dundalk and Sears at Hunt Valley Towne Centre in Hunt Valley.
The units have to be in working condition to be eligible. Customers will get a $25 check for the unit approximately four weeks after the event. Customers can turn in up to two units.
The electric company also offers a $25 mail-in rebate for new Energy Star certified air conditioning units. BGE says an Energy Star certified unit uses at least 10 percent less energy than a conventional unit.
