Two flu deaths reported in Anne Arundel County

(WMAR) - The Department of Health says two flu deaths have been reported in Anne Arundel County since October 1, 2017. 

Records show that 115 residents in the county have been hospitalized due to the flu, and local hospitals confirm that two adults over the age of 65 died from complications. 

Officials want to remind everyone that it is not too late to get your flu shot. There will be a free walk-in flu vaccine clinic on Friday from 8:30 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Glen Burnie Center at 416 A Street. 

Acting Health Officer Frances Phillips said, “Yearly vaccinations are important because the strains of influenza that circulate change over time."

Certain people who may have a higher risk of complications from the flu include children younger than 5, adults 65 years of age and older, pregnant women, and residents of nursing homes and other long-term care facilities.
