Groups rally on Lawyers Mall in Annapolis for stricter gun laws in Maryland

A group of protesters gathered on Lawyers Mall in front of the state house Wednesday morning on the one-month anniversary of the Florida school shooting.

The group was protesting for stricter gun laws in Maryland.

Some of the things advocates want are criminal background checks for all gun purchases, including at gun shows and on the internet. They also wanted to show support for students who took part in the national school walkout in support for stricter gun laws after the Florida mass school shooting Wednesday.

“We really need to be addressing what's happening in Baltimore every day,” said Elizabeth Banach of Marylanders to Prevent Gun Violence. “We need to be addressing suicides that happen every day, and we can do that through things like a piece of legislation we are supporting right now, extreme risk violence protective order, ERPO.”

Moms Rising and Marylanders to Prevent Gun Violence were the two groups involved in the protest Wednesday.
