Cost of dementia

A new study shows caring for dementia patients is not just emotionally taxing, it is also taking a huge toll financially.

The study finds treating dementia is more expensive than treating cancer or heart disease.

The annual cost per person is up to $56,000.

Researchers say the bulk of the money is not spent on medication or treatment.

Most of the money goes to pay for nursing homes or home care costs.
