Magic Johnson gives away 30 scholarships to minority students

BALTIMORE - In 1998, Magic Johnson created the Taylor Michaels Scholarship Program. It was named after Taylor Michaels, one of his former employees who passed away during that year.

She was committed to youth development.  Magic Johnson has carried her passion forward with a scholarship program.

Each year the foundation selects approximately 30 scholars who demonstrate a strong potential for academic achievement, but face socioeconomic challenges hindering their full expression.

Winners will get $2,000 to $5,000 annual tuition assistance renewable up to 5 years and a free laptop during their freshman year.

They will also have access to internships and mentors.  The deadline is February 2, 2013.  Incomplete and late applications will not be accepted.
