Police: Gold car led to alleged pimp

ELKRIDGE - A 37-year-old man was arrested this week at an Elkridge motel and charged with human trafficking and operating a prostitution business.

Officials with the Howard County Police Department say three rooms at the Terrace Motel on Washington Boulevard were raided, and Philip Simmons was taken into custody.

Police began investigating Simmons after reports that he was forcing women to perform sex acts in several states. Officials say they also learned Simmons posted ads on Backpage.com. Those ads, they say, were to solicit prostitution customers.

Detectives were led to the Terrace Motel following a tip that Simmons was driving around in a gold 1998 Lincoln Town Car. When they found the car, detectives report, women were observed going in and out of hotel rooms. Those women, according to a report provided by the Howard County Police Department, later got into the gold car with Simmons.

Simmons is being held in the Howard County Detention Center on $25,000 bond.
