Man pleads guilty in mall theft

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (WMAR) -- A District of Columbia man pleaded guilty yesterday to charges stemming from a November 26, 2012 theft with a stun gun at the Mall in Columbia. 
Michael Penny, also known as Jimmie James Williams pleaded guilty yesterday to the theft of several watches. During the theft, Penny was seen on close-circuit surveillance cameras, and pursued by a Lord & Taylor loss prevention officer whom Penny threatened with a stun gun outside of the store. 
A struggle ensued between Penny and the officer and the taser was eventually knocked to the ground. 
A search of Penny revealed a watch in his pocket with the security cable still attached. The total value of all the watches that were taken was $1817.90. 
A sentencing date of August 28 has been set for Penny. At that time the state will ask for a 10-year-prison sentence.
