Fire marshal arrests man in apartment arson

BEL AIR, Md. (WMAR) -  

Fire marshals have arrested a man with setting fire to a Harford County apartment early Sunday morning.

Ryan Lawrence Spann, 28 of Joppa was taken into custody after investigators determed he was responsible for setting a fire inside of Calvert's Walk Apartments in the 200 block of Foxhall Drive in Bel Air.

Shortly after 1:00 A.M. Sunday morning, a female tenant entered her apartment and discovered smoke and a smoke alarm sounding.  She left the apartment and called 911.

Firefighters responded and found that two fires had burned themselves out.

Harford County deputies determined that the fires were started using ordinary household items.

The investigation revealed that the female and Spann had an argument in the apartment, before the female left.  According to the police report, Spann set the fires and fled the scene.

The amount of damage done to the apartment is estimated at $10,000.

Spann has been charged with both first and second degree arson.
