Additional suspect arrested on weapons charges following Officer Jason Schneider's death

CATONSVILLE, Md. - A Catonsville teen has been charged as an adult with firearm violations after being arrested during the warrant being served Wednesday by Baltimore County police, during which tactical officer Jason Schneider was shot and killed.

Taquan Barney, 17, of the unit block of Shipley Avenue has been charged with firearm violations. He was arrested inside the home, located on Roberts Avenue during the search warrant service. While searching the suspect, officers found a loaded .22 caliber handgun in his front pants pocket.  Barney is currently being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center.

Baltimore County police said that firearm and one additional firearm were recovered during the incident and investigators are currently tracing those weapons and determining how the suspects came to be in possession of them.

The warrant was being served in connection with a 16-year-old suspect wanted regarding an Aug. 19 shooting in Catonsville. The name of the victim in that shooting is being withheld for safety purposes, police said.

Police said Schneider was shot and killed in the home by Tevon Smith , 25. Smith, who was also shot, later died at Shock Trauma. Police said Smith is believed to be the only suspect to have shot Schneider. Also, four additional people in the home were interviewed and later released.
