Our 2017 Project: The Brooklyn O'Malley Club

Modeled in the spirit of the ABC Network’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” program, Built Upon a Dream will feature the metro area’s foremost builders, contractors, architects, suppliers and others in association with the construction field.

This exciting program will match professionals with a private, non-profit organization in need.

Often times the work that many small non-profits do can be boosted just by having an adequate facility to serve their needs. Through Built Upon a Dream we hope to help makeover the physical space so these non-profits can better serve the needs of their community.

Our 2017 beneficiary is the Brooklyn O'Malley Club. The Brooklyn Curtis-Bay area is a diverse, economically depressed community in Baltimore with more than its share of violence, drugs/alcohol abuse, suffocating poverty and limited resources. Despite the many challenges facing this community, its residents are resilient and have a no surrender spirit, most especially when it comes to their children.

Since 2011 when Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Baltimore established a Boys & Girls Club at the former Brooklyn O’Malley Community Center, it has been a safe-haven and beacon of light for the children of this community. In a short period, the B&GC has become a trusted and reliable resource for children, families and the community. BGCMB has been fighting right alongside the community on behalf of our children stressing the importance of education, avoiding risky/unhealthy behaviors and providing opportunities for children to “be children” in a safe, protective and encouraging environment.

The Brooklyn O'Malley Club reaches over 200 children annually.
