BALTIMORE - Here are the stories you're talking about on January 3, 2014.

1.  TOWSON TIGER TAILGATING MUST-HAVES: Everyone's talking about the Towson University Tigers. The football team is gearing up for the FCS National Championship match-up against North Dakota State in Frisco, Texas Saturday.

But, if you're not heading down to the "lone star state," you can eat like a champ right here in Baltimore County. The tiger tailgate kicks off game day at Bill Bateman's Bistro on campus.

Here's a list of #TigerTakeover Tailgating must-haves:

2. BRIAN EMMETT'S CAKEY CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES:  If you want to whip up some sweet tailgating treats, nothing beats a good cookie.

"When it gets cold out and you walk into a house and you smell anything baked in chocolate it just makes you feel good," said American Baking Competition winner,  Brian Emmett.

"A chocolate chip cookie is so easy to make. Some people like them chewy. Some like them cakey,"  added the baker.

RECIPE:  Cakey chocolate chip cookies

1/4 cups all-purpose flour

 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

14 tablespoons (1 3/4 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature

 3/4 cup granulated sugar

 1/4 cup packed light-brown sugar

 1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon almond extract

 2 large eggs

1 cup semisweet and 1 cup of 60% cacao chocolate

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda; set aside. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, combine the butter with both sugars  beat on medium speed until light and fluffy. Reduce speed to low; add the salt, vanilla, and eggs. Beat until well mixed, about 1 minute. Add flour mixture; mix until just combined. Stir in the chocolate chips.

With and ice cream scoop drop the dough about 2 inches apart on baking sheets lined with parchment paper.

Bake until cookies are golden around the edges and set in the center, 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from oven, and let cool on baking sheet 1 to 2 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack, and let cool completely.

3.  SNOW FUN FRIDAY: Just in time for the holiday break to be over for the kids, Winter Storm Hercules hit and they had their first snow day of 2014 on Friday.

While the temperature outside was frigid, Facebook and Twitter were burning up with videos and pics. From kids playing to beauty shots. The Babe Ruth statue even got into the act at Oriole Park in Camden Yards.
