Around Baltimore | 'Veep,' Happy State of the City and Maryland's coolest small town


1. "VEEP" HONORED:  "Veep" was just honored with an Art Directors Guild Award for transforming the Baltimore City into Helsinki, Finland in an episode from last season on the HBO series. The production crew used the Baltimore Engineers Club and BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport for most of the episode where Julia Louis-Dreyfuss' character, Vice President Selina Meyer, travels to Helsinki. You can see more of Baltimore when the third season of  "Veep" premieres April6th on HBO.

2. BALTIMORE'S HAPPY ‘STATE OF THE CITY': Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake delivered her annual state of the city address Monday and the majority of the speech focused on crime and the declining economy. 3.  BERLIN, MD. IN THE RUNNING FOR ‘COOLEST SMALL TOWN': Speaking of another positive spin on our state, the next time you drive to Ocean City, you may be passing through one of the coolest small towns in the country – Berlin, Maryland.

Berlin is one of 15 finalists in the running for Budget Travel's "Coolest Small Towns in America." You can help them win the honor and bragging rights by voting daily online.


So far, Cazenovia, New York, Buckhannon West Virginia and Mathews Virginia are the biggest competition for Berlin.
