Hermine is still a tropical storm but it is gaining strength and is forecasted to become a hurricane before it makes landfall on the panhandle of Florida late tonight into early Friday morning.
After that, it will move up the coast as a Tropical Storm but as of this morning, the models have AGAIN shifted. The forecast now pushes the storm more east with the center well off shore. There are still plenty of model runs to go to see if there is any consistency.
For now, it looks like the places that will be hit the hardest will be the Eastern Shore and the Delmarva with rain and wind. Plus, there will be high surf and rip currents at the beaches.
The tropical system will be steered northeast around the west side of the Bermuda-Azores high pressure. Also, it will be pulled by a trough that is on the move through the Great Lakes and Northeast. The trough will exit the North Atlantic this weekend before completely pulling Hermine along with it. High pressure will build in behind the the upper trough just to the north of Hermine and that could aid in the system sitting and spinning for much of the holiday weekend.
Saturday afternoon into Sunday is when Maryland will be impacted by this tropical system. Monday still looks to be the best day for outdoor holiday plans. This is still a work in progress, so stay tuned!
