After forming Sunday evening, Tropical Depression 11 became the "J" storm of the Atlantic Hurricane season on Monday night.

Tropical Storm Joaquin is spinning in the western Atlantic and could make a bad situation worse as more moisture may stream into Maryland late in the week and into the weekend. The impact to our area could come in the form of flash flooding, river flooding, coastal flooding, gusty winds, high surf and beach erosion.

This system is moving slowly to the west and the slow movement is expected to continue over the next couple of days before making a jog to the north by Friday. Sea surface temperatures are warm, there is plenty of moisture to tap into and wind shear will lessen over the next few days, so it is likely strengthening will occur.

Before we feel the effects of Joaquin, a cold front is expected to bring heavy rain Tuesday night (tonight) into Wednesday (tomorrow).

Now would be the time to download the Storm Shield Weather App, so you can stay ahead of the storm. Stay tuned!
