As of 5pm on Saturday, Irma is a category 2 hurricane with max sustained winds of 110mph, moving westward at 15mph.

Irma is expected to become a major hurricane again as it approaches the Lesser Antilles early next week. Dangerous winds, heavy rain, storm surge and rough surf are expected across the islands.

It is way too early to determine what direct impacts Irma may have on the US. Regardless, everyone in hurricane-prone areas should ensure that they have their hurricane plan in place as we are now near the peak of the season.
