As of 10 p.m. Wednesday, Maria is a Category 2 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 110 mph, moving west northwestward at 12 mph. Maria is expected to reach major hurricane status again as it turns north producing dangerous winds, heavy rains and rough seas. This storm has a history of producing catastrophic damage and should be taken very seriously as it approaches the United States.

Maryland & Maria

A strong area of high pressure will be in place during Maria's turn to the north. This pattern will allow Maria to approach the coast and "timing is everything" with this storm". We'll have a strong cold front heading in our direction around the time Maria is closing in. If this front is slower than expected, Maria will have an opportunity to get dangerously close to the coast before getting kicked out to sea. Since this is a close call and models do struggle with hurricane track & intensity - be sure to stay up to date with the latest forecasts.
