One of the most talked about meteor showers of the year is almost here! The Geminids usually appear between December 4 and 17. This year they are expected to peak on December 13-14.

Unfortunately, the full moon (which occurs at the peak of the meteor shower on December 13) may obscure the view.

Why is this meteor shower called the Geminids?  If you trace the paths of the Geminid meteors backward, they all seem to radiate from the constellation Gemini.

How do I watch?  It's easy! You don't need any special equipment, just a dark, open sky away from the city lights. Grab a blanket and look up!
