Another colorful moon will be here on the last day of September. It is not the Blue Moon, Dark Moon or Blood Moon. It is the Black Moon!

The rare lunar event is the second new moon in a month. Another way of looking at it is a Black Moon is a month without a New Moon.

A Black Moon is similar to the well-known Blue Moon which is the second full moon in a month.

The Black Moon will not be a visible event because the side of a New Moon that is illuminated will be facing away from the Earth but with all the darkness it will be a wonderful time to stargaze.

The United States will experience a Black Moon in September but that will not be the scenario for the entire world.

The Black Moon will occur at 8:11 p.m. ET on Friday, September 30th for the Western Hemisphere because the New Moon will happen on October 1st for the Eastern Hemisphere.

A Black Moon hasn't occurred since March of 2014, so not only is this a rare occurrence but it is a thrilling occurrence!

July 2019 will be the next time a new moon is seen in a single calendar month in North and South America.
