Tuesday's massive surge of rain across Maryland created havoc on the roads, required dozens of swift water rescues, and nearly set the *all time* daily rainfall record in the Baltimore area (at BWI Airport).
The attached graphics show just how stunning some of the rainfall totals really were, with portions of the state receiving exceptionally heavy downpours.
*BWI: 6.30" *(2nd highest ever recorded)
Baltimore City: 5.40"
Ho.Co Simpsonville: 4.33"
PG.Co Marlton: 4.39"
One final note, but the 'window" of time in which the bulk of this rain fell was also unusual and impressive from a meteorological standpoint.
In fact, just a 3 hour window, 11am through 2pm on Tuesday, produced more than 80% of the total rain in Baltimore.
More amazing, according to hourly observations at BWI, as much as 4 inches of rain fell in just a single hour!
