The National Weather Service (NWS) is simplifying it's weather alerts. Hence, the Hazards Simplification Project or ("Haz Simp").

I know you are somewhat familiar with the Watches, Warnings and Advisories that the NWS issues to protect life and property. The purpose of the WWA system has been effective but some feedback has rendered the WWA terms confusing.

Because of the confusion, The NWS Hazard Simplification Project was kicked off on October 2, 2017. The product consolidation nixed five of the previous watches, advisories and warnings and integrated them in the present winter storm watch, winter weather advisory and winter storm warning.

Lake-effect snow watches, advisories and warnings (in some offices), as well as blizzard watches and freezing rain advisories were some that were disposed of.
