2012 Was A Scorcher!

We are 9 days into the new year and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) announced yesterday that 2012 was officially the warmest year on record in the lower 48 states.

The data is based on 118 years of temperature records dating all the way back to 19th century, 1895 to be exact. 19 states recorded their hottest years, and three-quarters of the contiguous United States recorded their first, second, or third hottest years on record. 46 states had one of their top 10 warmest years ever recorded. Washington which is the coolest state, recorded 2012 to be warmer than 72 percent of the years on record.

According to the (NOAA), 2012 had an average temperature of 55.3°F,  which beat the previous record by 1 degree which was set back in 1998.

In Baltimore, 2012 was the third hottest year on record with annual average temperature of  58.6 degrees. 1931 and 1949 were hotter at 59.2 degrees.
