The definition of a Blizzard from the National Weather Service is a storm that contains large amounts of snow OR blowing snow, with winds in excess of 35 mph and visibility less than 1/4 mile for an extended period of time (at least 3 hours). When these conditions are expected, the National Weather Service will issue a "Blizzard Warning".

Currently we are under a Blizzard watch for most of Maryland until Sunday Morning.

The latest model runs and forecast trends continue to support impressive winds with this system. We're also tracking the rain/snow line with each run since the placement of this transition zone can drastically lower snow totals. Each run places this zone in Southern Maryland and along the beaches - meaning higher snow totals for the Baltimore area. Preliminary thinking on snowfall totals will be in the 18"- 24" range.
