While the Atlantic Basin is quiet, things are very busy in the Pacific Basin. There are currently two named storms, a tropical depression and the potential for a fourth storm to form.
Hurricane Fernanda, currently a category 1 hurricane, continues to slowly weaken as it moves westward. The storm is decreasing in coverage and intensity as it moves into cooler water with increasing shear. Fernanda will likely be downgraded to a tropical storm later tonight.
Tropical Storm Greg continues westward with little to no change in strength. A turn to the west-northwest with some increase in forward speed is expected over the next day or two.
Tropical Depression Eight-E remains weak and poorly organized. This storm looks to dissipate by week's end.
The fourth disturbance is a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms associated with a tropical wave. Upper-level winds will become more conducive for development the next couple of days, and the National Hurricane Center is now giving it a 50% chance of development in the next 48 hours.
