This Atlantic Hurricane Season has been pretty quiet since Tropical Depression Four formed in early July and most of the action so far this year has been in the Eastern Pacific, where two major hurricanes have already occurred.

Don quietly overcame dry air and *wind shear to gain tropical storm strength. At this time, Don is not expected to impact the United States.

*Wind shear refers to the changing of wind speed and direction with height, "and tropical systems like hurricanes don't like it.
