Severe weather leads to downed trees, power outages across Maryland

A fast-moving storm produced winds in excess of 60 miles per hour Tuesday afternoon, and there were reports of downed trees and power outages across the area.

Thousands of BGE customers in Howard County were reportedly without power. County Executive Allan Kittleman tweeted that more than 11,000 

More than 11,000 customers in Fulton and 5,000 in Laurel were without power, Kittleman said.

The National Weather Service reported a confirmed tornado in Howard County Tuesday afternoon.

Earlier Tuesday afternoon, tornado warnings were issued for Baltimore and Howard counties, and for Kent, Queen Anne's and Talbot counties on the Eastern Shore. 

 

Flash flood warnings remained in effect for Howard, Anne Arundel, Baltimore and Harford counties for most of the afternoon.
