High wind watch issued for the coast

TRACKING SANDY | The National Weather Service has issued a high wind watch for much of the coast, including Ocean City.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN WAKEFIELD HAS ISSUED A HIGH WIND WATCH WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM SUNDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH MONDAY EVENING.

TIMING: FROM SUNDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH MONDAY EVENING.

WIND: NORTHEAST WINDS WILL INCREASE TO 25 TO 35 MPH SUNDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING WITH GUSTS OF 45 TO 50 MPH POSSIBLE BY SUNDAY EVENING. FROM SUNDAY NIGHT INTO MONDAY NORTH TO NORTHWEST WINDS WILL AVERAGE 35 TO 45 MPH WITH GUSTS OF 50 TO 60 MPH POSSIBLE.

IMPACTS: PROLONGED STRONG WINDS WILL INCREASE THE POTENTIAL FOR STRUCTURAL DAMAGE DOWNING TREES AND CAUSING POWER OUTAGES.
