Youth baseball fans, coaches respond to Machado's suspension

PARKVILLE, Md. - As dark clouds rolled in Tuesday, youth baseball players in Parkville were eager to warm up for their playoff game.

While rain showers led to disappointment and empty bleachers, those at the field were left with plenty of time to discuss Orioles third baseman Manny Machado. Major League Baseball announced Tuesday that Machado will be suspended for five games and fined for intentionally throwing his bat on the field during Sunday's game against Oakland.

"I feel like it wasn’t right that he threw the bat…,” youth player Logan Light said. “It’s just not right to do all that stuff that he did.”

Coach Howie Lewis agreed with his player.

"You can’t be doing stuff like that,” he said. “You got talent and you just got to drop it… We want these kids to look up to these ball players but we want ball players to do things right not the wrong way"

Machado started at third base for the Orioles Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox as he appealed the suspension. He batted second and went 0-for-4, making the final out on a strikeout in the Orioles’ 1-0 loss.
