Thousands of people are celebrating the life of golf legend Arnold Palmer Tuesday.

The memorial service was held in his hometown of Loatrobe, PA. Those who couldn't get into the service watched a broadcast of it from a nearby student center.

The P.G.A. Commissioner and Palmer's good friend Jack Nicklaus described him best saying,

"There will remain the moments that provide us a glimpse into the golfer who epitomized charisma. The man who's character loyalties and loves that were unshakeable. The caring, giving gentleman we celebrate today. He was an everyday man. Everyone's hero. Arnold managed to remove the "I" from icon and instead let the world share in his greatness."

Palmer died September 25 at the age of 87.

He won 62 titles on the P.G.A. tour and helped grow golf to worldwide recognition.
