The Southern Anne Arundel boys, Severna Park boys and Century girls all claimed state high school lacrosse championships on Wednesday at Stevenson University.
Southern topped South Carroll 20-7 for the boys 2A/1A state title (its first in program history). Bulldogs senior Ben DeBlauw scored eight goals. The state championship record for goals by a single player is nine. He also had nine points. That's also one off the state record of 10. Southern's 20 goals ties the state record for a 2A championship game.
Severna Park capped a 20-0 season with a 7-6 victory in the boys 4A/3A title game against Winston Churchill. Jack Thomas scored the game-winner with 3 seconds remaining in regulation.
Century defeated Fallston 13-5 to win the girls 2A/1A state championship. Knights freshman Grace Bruce scored five goals. Senior Michaela Connolly had three goals and three assists for Century.
