Some of golf’s biggest names are coming to Baltimore.

“You’re going to see Bernhard Langer to Fred Couples to John Daly to Vijay Singh to Steve Stricker,” said professional golfer Billy Andrade.

Caves Valley Golf Club is set to host the Constellation Senior Players Championship in mid July.  It’s one of the five major tournaments on the PGA’s senior tour, which consists of players over the age of 50, like Andrade.

“This tournament, it’s going to be an endurance test. This is a big boy course,” said Andrade. “So, to win you got to play fantastic golf.”

This will be the fifth time the Senior Players Championship will be contested in Maryland. The last couple major events Caves Valley hosted are the 2002 U.S. Senior Open and the 2014 LPGA International Crown.

“Coming to Baltimore to play Caves Valley, it was important to our tour and it was really important to our players,” said Senior Vice President and Chief of Operations for the Champions Tour Miller Brady.

“When it was announced that we were coming here guys were talking about it on the range going ‘Wow. What a great place to go’. We’ve been to some nice golf courses but I think this is the cream of the crop,” added Andrade.

Come July all eyes will be on Bernhard Langer.  He’ll be vying for his fourth consecutive Senior Players Championship victory.  Langer has already captured both of the senior majors played in 2017.

“He’s the best,” Andrade said of Langer. “He has no weakness. He doesn’t seem to make a whole lot of mistakes. It’s just time for him to slow down a little bit and give us guys out there a little bit of a chance. So, maybe it will be here at Caves Valley.”

Round one of the Senior Players Championship will be on Thursday, July 13. The tournament is set to donate $500,000 to local charities.
