Matteson soars in world rankings

Last Update: 10/26 3:05 pm

Troy Matteson was a playoff winner on the PGA Tour Sunday and that helped him make a big move in the world rankings.

Matteson, who won for the second time on the PGA Tour, leapt 122 places to 166th in the rankings.

At the top, there was not a lot of change.

Tiger Woods comfortably remained the No. 1 player and was again followed by Phil Mickelson, Steve Stricker, Paul Casey, Lee Westwood, Padraig Harrington, Henrik Stenson, Kenny Perry, Jim Furyk and Sergio Garcia.

Martin Kaymer shared second place on the European Tour and inched up one spot to 11th, which knocked Geoff Ogilvy down to 12th. Stewart Cink and Sean O'Hair held steady at 13 and 14.

Lucas Glover and Rory McIlroy both moved up one place to 15 and 16, while Vijay Singh fell two to 17th. Camilo Villegas, Retief Goosen and Zach Johnson rounded out the top 20 in the same spots as last week.

Michael Jonzon birdied the 18th hole to beat Kaymer and Christian Nilsson by a single stroke on the European Tour and soared 250 places to No. 232 this week.
