Baltimore native and swimmer Chase Kalisz is heading to the Olympics.

Kalisz swam to victory in the Olympic trials Sunday night, winning the 400-meter individual medley in four minutes, 9.54 seconds.

That's the second best time in the world this year, and his coach believes he can go even faster.

The Bel Air native is a legacy of the North Baltimore Aquatic Club, and he has the support of Michael Phelps, his friend and training partner.

Another Maryland athlete could be competing in Rio de Janiero in August.

Baltimore's Donnell Whittenburg was named one of the three alternates to the U.S. gymnastics team. He finished fourth overall in the Olympic trials over the weekend.

As an alternate, he'll head to Rio with the team and will be subbed in to the five-man squad if a teammate drops out.
