The Havre de Grace High School football team is on a mission.
“This team has been putting in the work to win the state title, to finish what we started last year,” said Havre de Grace quarterback Mikey Flosser. “We’ve had a different mindset this year, of finishing rather than making it there."
A year after losing in the state final, they’re ready to win it all.
“We’re probably a little more determined this year. Last year I felt like ‘Man this is great. We made it to the state championship.’ This year we have some unfinished business,” said Havre de Grace head coach Brian Eberhardt.

The Warriors think they’re better equipped this year to handle the pressure and the level of play that faces them on the biggest of stages.
“We’re more prepared,” said Havre de Grace linebacker Sean Greeley. “We know what it’s like now. It’s not just ‘Wow, this is an amazing feeling just to make it.’ Now we want to win it all.”
Once again the 1A class in the state of Maryland comes down to Havre de Grace (10-2) and Fort Hill (13-0), that traditional football power out of Cumberland and three-time defending state champ.
“They are a well-oiled football machine,” said Eberhardt. “It’s ingrained in their community. Football is a way of life for them there.”
“It’s going to take pretty much a perfect game. We have to match their physicality, no turnovers and we just have to play our best football we have all year,” said Flosser.
So what would it feel like to win the Warriors first state championship in 30 years?
“To bring one back for this community would be everything,” added Flosser. “It would be amazing to bring back a state title for this town.”
They get their chance at 3:30pm on Saturday at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis.
