Ravens get offensive in bid to reach Super Bowl

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Long known for their defense, the Baltimore Ravens will count heavily on the offense this year in their effort to reach the NFL playoffs for a fifth straight season.

The defense, under first-year coordinator Dean Pees, will again be led by linebacker Ray Lewis and safety Ed Reed. But 2011 NFL Defensive Player of the Year Terrell Suggs is out with a torn Achilles tendon and two other starters -- Jarret Johnson and Cory Redding -- are with other teams.

Suggs had 14 sacks last year, so the defense will have to cover for his loss. So does the offense, which will be directed by quarterback Joe Flacco.

Ravens receiver Torrey Smith says it's "on everyone to pick up the slack -- not only the defense, but us as well."
