The Baltimore Ravens agreed in principle to a four-year contract with veteran safety Eric Weddle, general manager/executive vice president Ozzie Newsome announced Monday.
Weddle is a three-time Pro Bowler from the San Diego Chargers. The nine-year veteran has recorded 648 solo tackles, 19 interceptions (three returned for touchdowns), six fumble recoveries and five force fumbles during his career.
Last season, Weddle started all 13 games in which he played. He had 75 tackles, a half-sack, six passes defended and one fumble recovery. Prior to a groin injury in 2015, Weddle had started all 16 games for San Diego in five-straight season. From 2010-2015 he started 86-consecutive times.
He earned Pro Bowl and Chargers' Defensive Player of the Year honrs in 2011, 2013 and 2014. Weddle was originally selected by San Diego out of Utah in the second round (37th overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft.
The Ravens expect Weddle to be in Baltimore on Wednesday to take a physical and sign a contract.
