There was a Joe Flacco sighting at Ravens training camp on Tuesday. The franchise quarterback was chatting with owner Steve Bisciotti after practice. A practice, just like the previous ones this camp, he Flacco didn’t participate in because of a back injury. Head coach John Harbaugh said there’s no update on the a timeline for Flacco’s return.
As for the rest of the team, after two weeks battling each other it’s finally time to suit up against someone else. Harbaugh wouldn’t divulge much about how long the starters will play Thursday against Washington. But did offer his thoughts on how the team approaches preseason games.
“We never do anything specifically to try to win the game in terms of who we play,” said Harbaugh. “We don’t play starters too much. We don’t put guys back in the game. As a matter of fact, we usually played our guys less than other teams. We want our guys to win, all 90 of them or however many play.”
One guy who is itching to get back into game action is Ben Watson. The veteran tight end suffered a torn right Achilles during game number three of last year’s preseason. It was an injury that caused him to miss the entire 2016 regular season.
“These first couple weeks of training camp have been good. Progressively each day getting better,” said Watson. “(I) Still have a little ways to go, I think, from a strength standpoint.”
The next step comes Thursday.
“I’ve gone through practice and faced NFL competition again for the first time on our own team. And then to be able to face someone else, to have that reaction, to have the emotions of playing again. And then to know that hey, I’m back. I can do it. I’m looking forward to having that satisfaction,” added Watson.
Watson and the Ravens will hold a closed walk-through Wednesday before hosting Washington Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. at M&T Bank Stadium.
