The 142nd Preakness Stakes will be filled with excitement and whichever horse crosses the finish line first will be covered with a blanket made of Black-eyed Susans.
Florists at Giant in Towson began weaving the flowers together Thursday for the Black-eyed Susan and Preakness Stakes races.
It will take five people and more than eight hours to complete one blanket and while it is time consuming the florists love being a part of something special.
"I feel like I am a part of history," said florist Kathleen Marvel. "I think the Preakness in the most important race. You can win the first race, but to be a triple crown winner you have to win the Preakness Stakes to go on. So, we have the best race and out blankets are the prettiest too."
Florists will being work on the Preakness Stakes winner's blanket on Friday.
