The Buffalo Bills announced Wednesday that Ed Reed would be joining their coaching staff.

Reed, 37, played for Bills' head coach Rex Ryan for five years - four with the Ravens (2005-2008) and one with the New York Jets (2013). He'll be the assistant defensive backs coach. Ryan is excited to be reunited with his former player.

"Obviously, he's played in this system at a MVP-caliber level and he's a real student of the game. I think he's going to be a phenomenal coach and I truly believe our players are going to love learning from him," Ryan said.

Reed was drafted by the Ravens in the first round of the 2002 NFL Draft. He was the 24th overall pick. He played in Baltimore for 12 seasons.

According to NFL.com, Reed is the NFL's all-time leader in interceptions-return yards and playoff interceptions. He ranks No. 6 in season picks. He's one of just three safeties to win Defensive Player of the Year over the past 30 years.
