Keith Toston had 206 yards on 25 carries with
three touchdowns, as 18th-ranked Oklahoma State crushed Iowa State, 34-8, at
Jack Trice Stadium.
Zac Robinson went 19-for-24 with 142 yards and a touchdown for the Cowboys
(7-2, 4-1 Big 12), who were coming off a 41-14 defeat at the hands of Texas.
Hubert Anyiam had five catches for 48 yards.
Austen Arnaud completed 14-for-27 passes for 188 yards, one touchdown and
three interceptions for the Cyclones (5-5, 2-4), who have dropped their last
two games. Alexander Robinson caught the lone score.
"We were outplayed on offense and defense and everywhere else that you
looked," Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads said.
Holding a 13-0 lead, Oklahoma State started the second half with the ball and
used a 10-play, 80-yard drive to make it a 20-0 game, as Toston ran into the
end zone from two yards out.
After holding Iowa State to a three-and-out, the Cowboys padded their lead, as
a six-play series was finished on a 17-yard run around the right side by
Toston for a 27-0 lead with 7:13 to play in the third.
The Cyclones offense finally got themselves together in the fourth quarter and
put together a drive to cut into the deficit. On the seventh play of the
set, Austen Arnaud hooked up with Robinson on a 45-yard touchdown pass and,
coupled with a two-point conversion that saw Marquis Hamilton catch it in the
end zone, the team trailed, 27-8, with 11:50 to play.
However, the Cowboys answered quickly, as a Toston 69-yard run to the two-yard
line was followed three plays later by a Toston one-yard push into the end
zone for a 34-8 lead with 8:45 to play.
Arnaud was picked off by Patrick Lavine on the next drive, and the Cowboys
killed off the rest of the clock.
On their first possession of the game, the Cowboys put points on the board, as
Dan Bailey booted a 42-yard field goal with 8:58 to play in the first for a
3-0 lead.
After holding Iowa State to a three-and-out, Oklahoma State again drove down
the field, but stalled at the 31, and a 48-yard field goal from Bailey made it
a 6-0 game with 4:38 left in the first.
The Cyclones crossed midfield on their ensuing touch but were unable to
advance much further and had to punt the ball away, with Oklahoma State
getting it back at its own two-yard line.
Zac Robinson gave his team some breathing room on the first play thanks to a
14-yard pass to DeMarcus Conner. The team methodically moved the ball down the
field with a combination of runs and passes and converted a 3rd-and-4 on the
ISU 18 with a seven-yard catch by Conner. Two plays later, Robinson and Tracy
Moore hooked up on a 10-yard touchdown catch for a 13-0 lead with 9:50 to play
in the first half.
Iowa State got a 56-yard kickoff return from Josh Lenz on the kickoff, but
Arnaud was picked off by Perrish Cox.
Neither team was able to put any more points on the board before the end of
the first 30 minutes.
