It’s hard to tell what jumps out of the blocks faster—Jamila Brown’s feet, or her personality.
"I knew I was fast I guess," the Wilde Lake High School sophomore said.

She hit the track for the first time last year, immediately impressing her coaches.
“I saw that she had explosiveness. Once we put her in a real race you could tell she was the real deal,” coach Chris Brewington said.
After winning her first race, she was resolute to never lose again.
“I’m extremely competitive,” she said.
In the same year, Brown finished eighth in the track and field state championships.
“Those girls were fast,” she said.
This year, she finished first.
“It’s the one thing I love. She never settles,” Brewington said.
Brown added, You should always aim for the top. Yes there are always going to be people better than you but you don’t want to sell yourself short. If you can be better, be better.”
