The Orioles, as a team, are good. Their attendance is not. Here are some numbers:
- 45, 971 - number of fans Oriole Park holds
- 26,595 - average per game attendance in 2016, according to BaseballReference.com
- 20 - O's average rank in total and per game attendance
- $65.63 - average cost for two people to attend, eat, drink and park at an O's game (according to GOBankingRates)
Attendance is down 2,519 from 2015, which was a non-playoff year.
Down the homestretch of the season attendance continues to dwindle. What gives?
“It's the pennant race. It's the pennant race. Very, very disappointing,” said O's Season Ticket Holder Martin Goode.
“We came out to the game - there couldn't have been more than 15,000 people in the park and I have to question whether 10,000 of them were Red Sox fans. It was sad,” said Timonium native Brian Gutmann.

We asked fans on social media why they aren't going to games. On Twitter, Jim said TV and radio makes it easier to watch or listen from home. Other common reasons include cost, traffic and safety around the ballpark.
What do the players think about the lack of fans in the stands?
“From playing here for a while I'd love to see more just because I know how loud and how raucous the crowd can get,” said Orioles catcher Matt Wieters
“If we make the playoffs I know it's going to be sold out. We got to go out there, try to win and try to make the postseason,” said Orioles infielder Jonathan Schoop.
After Tuesday the Orioles have just five home games remaining on the regular season schedule. The organization tells me they expect their largest crowds of this homestand to be on Friday, Saturday and Sunday during fan appreciation weekend.
